Witch Aleana wants to live out her self-imposed exile in peace, but she is summoned back to Syvnaril when news of her High Witch Aunt Bella’s death arrives, along with the terrifying prophecy Bella left behind: a massacre of Syvnaril’s citizens at the hands of their own people. Now, Aleana must prevent the prophecy from coming true.
Teaming up with an uptight general and a thief foretold to become the leader of the cursed creatures, Aleana discovers that they must complete the missing pieces of the prophecy before their citizens begin turning into monsters. Their journey tests them at every turn: from a magical creature guarding the forest of prophecies, a band of desperate child thieves led by a sorcerer seeking magical blood, to a cunning High Adviser plotting to usurp the King.
As her illness, which has claimed generations of their bloodline, grows worse, Aleana must push the limits of her magic to save her people, even if it costs her life.
